William returns to Australia

William and Daisy lived together for a few years but on 17th May 1930 the British Ministry of Pensions sent a letter to Repat. Depart. in Melbourne advising that William was returning to Australia on 28th May 1930. There is a paragraph in the letter that warns to “issue only one [voucher] form at a time to this officer”.

The reason for the separation of William and Daisy is unknown and William returned, alone, to Australia.

Meanwhile, Daisy, at some time, moved from 66 Praed St. to “Willow Cottage”, Ewelme, Oxfordshire.

Daisy sees out her final days at the Wallingford and District Hospital, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, only 11 miles from where she was born. She died on 11th April 1937 and left an estate, of £1670 10s 3d, to the executor of her will, Stanley George Little, a civil servant, who she entrusted to execute the will.

It is interesting to note that in her probate details she is noted as a widow. Who told Daisy or the probate office that William had died three years before?
